Stephen began his career in flavour research before transitioning to various posts in software development. Since (almost) retiring he has realised that a traditional pension and investments are not a robust hedge against destitution. So, he has joined his wife, Fiona, on her property journey.

Fiona had a career in scientific quality control and then in research before moving into Health and Safety gaining NEBOSH certification and a qualification in Health and Safety in Construction.

After a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, her working life changed and at that time she was unaware of the signals she was getting that were trying to tell her that she should work for herself instead of working for other people. During this time, she learned numerous healing methods which she has used on herself.

Fiona learned a lot about mindset and how to work with emotions to help people to heal themselves. Fiona became an accidental landlord and found Progressive to find out more about how to invest in property properly from professionals. 

Things have moved on a lot from when she bought her first flat in 1982 for £14,600, with a deposit of £600 and a mortgage of £14,000.

Motiul Islam is the exciting host of Progressive Property Network Stratford. Hailing from the Eastend of London, Motiul has been experienced in property for 20+ years. A personable and engaging host, Motiul’s vision is to reach out to as many people as he can to help them on their property journey and to help them to achieve their goals.

Motiul started his own property journey at the age of 19 when he was still at university in London studying BA Economics and BSC in Business Information Technology. Before this, he was always thinking outside the box and investing in other areas. He then turned to property. Whilst his peers were in lectures, Motiul was stepping out of the lecture theatre to negotiate deals. He learned some crucial lessons early on when he was ‘gazumped’ in each of his first 3 property deals. However, he did not let this stop him and by the age of 23, Motiul had bought his first property investment. He continued to buy subsequent properties one after another, employing no money down strategies before they were even taught and adding value to properties through a combination of extending, developing and carrying out title splits.

After achieving his financial and property goals within a year of setting them, well ahead of the short timeframe he had set himself, Motiul was able to retire from property altogether. However, being young and having a big interest in the property field, he returned to property for two reasons. Firstly, he has a passion for property, ‘finding deals, doing deals and structuring deals’. Secondly, he has a vision to help others get started on the property ladder, but with his extensive experience, his expertise also benefits those who have already started and are established in the property arena.
