Hello, I’m Laura from York and I have had a great life. I am from a working class family; I had an amazingly happy upbringing climbing trees, going on adventures on my bike and trying to fish and have incredibly supportive parents. I was taught that if you wanted something badly enough you would find a way, silver spoons did not exist in our home.
So when I wanted to buy my first house, armed with this mantra in my head, I worked my full time job and took on a further 2 partime jobs and started to save. My dream was realized in 1996 and my property journey began.
Now being protective of my money, I’d worked hard for it, I set about my research, tv property programmes, (Rob and Mark were still at school and Progressive Property was not even a pipe dream), and bought the worst house on the best street my money could buy. I was on a roll; I mean who would not want to live with a salmon pink bathroom? Several £1000’s later the house look good enough to live in, so what did I do, promptly move to London with work, and became an accidental landlord.
Now London is very expensive to live in, even with a London salary, so I needed to have cheaper rent. At the time a friend mentioned about renting a house together and we would sublet the other bedrooms which would reduce our rent, now this sounds like a plan. So I became an accidental rent to renter, for 12 years!
Having studied Business at college and later Economics at college I went on to have a successful 20 year career in the event and hospitality industry. Roles including Catering Manager at Chelsea Football Club, Interim Training Manager at Wembley Stadium, IC of the G20 and CCW Venue Manager at London 2012 to name but a few. This was all brilliant but I wanted to move home, to YORK.
In March 2016 I found a link for a webinar for a company called Progressive Property. My first challenge was how to download the webinar app, we were on a roll again! My interest now piqued I was off to Progressive Property Multiple Streams of Property Income event in April 2016. The event was life changing, this coming from a massively skeptical Northerner, so much so I deliberately left my credit cards at home.
The atmosphere was amazing; the positivity in the room was infectious. Now did I mention I’m not so good at parting with my money? Well after much deliberation I ended up signing up for VIP, Commercial Conversion, Deal Packaging and most recently Serviced Accommodation and I can honestly say, with the exception of my dog, it’s the best money I have ever spent!
I am now on my way to achieving financial freedom through property investing. I now socialize with like-minded people which I know has been instrumental in achieving that success.
My family are now my business partners, and I love the way they not only encourage me to continue to succeed but how they are actively getting educated themselves.
My journey so far has been both interesting and challenging, progress is happening and when it stalls I have an amazing community that I can go to for support, encouragement or a general kick up the backside that I need to get me back on track.
My new mantra “Your Network is Net Worth” has never been more apt!
So what’s holding you back? Come and join me at the PPN YORK on the 3rd Monday of each Month and let’s see what we can achieve together.
